iPhone fun

Recent art shows and a trip to Photoshop World in Las Vegas last month gave me a chance to play with my iPhone camera and some photo apps.  Totally fun to create images when you have some time to play yet don't have all your normal computer and camera gear handy!   A select few:
The lunch room at the Sausalito Art Fair

And a few from the Shark Reef aquarium at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas while I was there for Photoshop World.

And from a brief excursion into the Mandalay Bay parking lot and 100 + degree heat:

My equipment was my iPhone 4 and the Snapseed photo app on my phone and my iPad.  Doug.

Streetlight & iPhone lighting

David and I attended Photoshop World in Las Vegas earlier this month and met some great people, soaked up a ton of great Photoshop instruction and spread the word about Photomorphis.   The last evening we were there we decided to venture out to see the sights .  I carried my 5D just in case but no tripod, portable strobes or anything else, so when we decided that we had to shoot a record shot of us in Vegas, our light sources amounted to a streetlight and the glow from the screens of our iPhones!
Of course, I had to construct a fun composite image on our return home...  I know.. a bit over the top, but so is Vegas!  And yes, David held still much better than me, but I had to trigger the delayed shutter and jump back into position, so you need to cut me a little slack.

Registration is now open for June 2011 Photomorphis Seminars and Labs.

We have a new format for 2011 and those who've attended Scratching the Surface events in the past will really appreciate the improvements. These changes will streamline your learning experience and allow you to absorb as many of Doug's insights as possible in a two day seminar.

STS Seminars: These 2-day events are geared toward photographers with Photoshop experience. The most noticeable change is that all the STS seminars are now classroom style rather than workshop so you won't be be working on a computer. This means you'll be able follow Doug much more easily and focus on his instruction without trying to match his moves on a laptop in real time. And he'll be able to pack more valuable information into two days. Advanced Photoshop topics include editing, composition, blending modes, selections and Doug's favorite: texture layers. This seminar will provide you with many new tools and techniques to enhance your own distinctive photographic style.

New Texture Labs: Bring your laptop and get some one-on-one time with Doug in a small-group setting! We've added two 6-hour Texture Labs to the schedule in the days following the seminar and we've limited the attendance to 15 people. Regardless of whether you attend the two-day STS seminar you can be inspired for 6 solid hours with Doug, your laptop, and your images in the Lab. The format, topics and images will all determined by you, the Lab members. This is your opportunity to finally get a clear understanding of the Photoshop techniques that have been eluding you. Bring your latest photographic inspiration or maybe the image that you've given up on because it's just not working.

Photomorphis is live!

I'm excited to share some great news. After a lot of work, David Volkamer and I have put together a company facebook fan page called Photomorphis that offers a lot of materials associated with Photoshop techniques and use of textures in the creation of photographic artworks. With the huge reach of facebook and the immediate nature of it's shared information, we believe it offers us a way to create a large online community of people interested in not just my workshops, but the entire gamut of Photoshop and photography techniques we use. We've got videos on some Photoshop tips and tricks loaded, free textures to download, lots of sample images to view and more. Check it out at www.photomorphis.com and "like" the site for access to the free stuff!

Full House at Seattle's SodoPhoto.

Thank you Seattle for a great seminar turnout! We filled up the SodoPhoto Studio for a two-day introduction to Doug's Photoshop techniques. There was quite a range of capabilities represented by the attendees and everyone came away with something to benefit their own creative style. It was good to see many old friends and associates in the group and to meet new ones. Doug and I came away thinking might be a good idea to have Seattle events more frequently. Also a good idea: Separate events for beginning/intermediate and intermediate/advanced classes.

Let us know your thoughts.
